Weeks 1 and 2

Creating the blog was easier than I expected. But then, if it were hard, the Internet wouldn't be clogged with bazillions of them, would it? I'm not entirely comfortable navigating it yet, but that will improve with practice.

The habit (of the 7 1/2 habits) I most want to explore is play, something I don't normally have time for on the job. So I appreciate being given the license to play for this 10 week period (and maybe beyond? I hope?).

What ends do I have in mind? I'd like to become more comfortable handling files, images, etc., and just feel more up to speed on lots of the newer applications and doo-dads. RSS feeds, MP3 files, etc., for instance. Building confidence and competence is important to me. The inventory thing intrigues me (Library something or other, coming up in a few weeks); I need an easy way to inventory some of my collections, so I'll definitely explore that. And I like the idea of having a blog buddy and sharing discoveries as we go through this process.

I haven't taken a really close look at the 23 things yet, so I'm not sure what else we'll be experimenting with, but I'm looking forward to all of it.

Monk in a funk!

Kudos to whoever found the little film of the monk who's so upset by the introduction of the book, which is threatening to replace his beloved scrolls. It's a brilliant send-up of how people panic when confronted with new technologies, and underscores that such changes have been happening for as long as people have been communicating with one another. The user services monk is so funny, a man of infinite patience!

Any idea of what language they're speaking? I'm guessing Swedish...
